In 2026 Gateway Global submitted written evidence (reference PMA0121) to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee on why UK small businesses find it hard to deploy technology into the NHS.
The evidence draws on our own experience of building Prime Assist, our AI voice infrastructure for healthcare, and of working through the assurance a health technology supplier needs before it can work with the NHS.
We made four recommendations:
- A single, nationally recognised deployment pathway for small suppliers, so that one technology assessment and one clinical safety review are recognised across NHS organisations, with a published timeline for decisions.
- Published, standardised terms for small suppliers to connect assured products to the primary care systems the NHS funds.
- A permanent, regular intake for the MHRA’s AI Airlock regulatory sandbox, open to real-time conversational AI.
- Recognition of UK voice AI infrastructure within the government’s Sovereign AI Unit.
